On October 14, 2021, the online event Diner Pensant brought together academics and researchers to debate common integrity dilemmas faced daily in the academic community. The online event was hosted by our project coordinator and this event’s “chef” Mariëtte van den Hoven, the researcher Miriam van Loon and the special guest Bert Theunissen.

The event began with a brief introduction by Mariëtte and the use of interactive quizzes that challenged participants to reflect on issues of academic integrity and good practices.

This was followed by tasteful Starters which brought participants together to discuss and debate academic-life themed comic strips (PhD Comics).

Then the Main Course was served, where 4 films produced exclusively for the event were shown, showing in a funny way situations between supervisors and their Ph.D. students. The videos served as a catalyst for reflection and debate with the entire audience, which the presenters then commented on.

To conclude, a Dessert! It challenged participants to reflect on the change they would like to see in supervision in their institutions and how they would like to be remembered by their students.

If you would like to repeat the experience or are interested in doing it at your institution, keep an eye on our website and social media to find out when it becomes available.

The event was only possible thanks to the hosts, moderators and audience who participated and brought their valuable perspectives to the conversations, questions and comments.
