INTEGRITY European Student Convention (8-9 Sept)

INTEGRITY European Student Convention

Fully Online Event – 8th & 9th September 2021

The European Student Convention (ESC) is one of the main centrepieces of the INTEGRITY project and will be held online on 8th & 9th September 2021.  The main objectives of the ESC are as follows:

Showcase the range of prototype tools for the three different cohorts of students (high school, undergraduate and PhD) at the different educational levels and in different disciplinary fields.

Facilitate an exchange of experiences from different national contexts on the meaning of research integrity and its significance for public trust in science.

Explore and evaluate the effectiveness of the different pedagogies, methodologies and tools in advancing education in research integrity for each of the different cohorts of students.

Provide a European-wide exchange of ideas and experiences of the value of research integrity training in each of the discrete cohort groups.

Provide space for intergenerational conversation of the promise of research integrity training in mixed cohort groups.

A total of 150 students from across 9 countries will participate in the ESC, made up of 15 students from each of the partner countries.  Students will work in single cohort groups, and groups will be arranged so as to mix students from each of the different countries. Participants will be awarded a certificate of attendance.

The ESC will adopt a ‘flipped’ model where short, pre-recorded videos on some of the sessions will be made available for participants to watch before the event.  Sessions 8 & 9 on day 2 of the ESC will be organized as a design sprint co-creation event which will be facilitated by Science Gallery Dublin.  The objective is for students to work in groups to create material for teaching research integrity to their own student cohort (session 8) and present this to the ESC (session 9).

Structure of the European Student Convention

Date: 8th & 9th September 2021

Day 1

9.30-10.00

Session 1. INTEGRITY introductions and themes, including an introduction to research integrity and why this is important.

10.00-10.45

Session 2. Allocation of students to single cohort (high school, undergraduate, PhD) mixed country groups.  This is followed by a group-based icebreaker focused on research integrity (facilitated by Science Gallery Dublin).

10.45-11.00

Short break

11.00-12.00

Session 3. Showcase of prototype tools to each of the cohort group separately in parallel. The tools are presented by the designers and discussed by students. Each of the groups have an opportunity to ask questions and they then commence working with the tools.

Session 6. Welcome to day 2 and warm-up (facilitated by Science Gallery Dublin).

9.45-10.45

Session 7. Parallel cohort groups complete working with the tools. This is followed by group discussion about the tools. This session provides space for a deeper and more detailed discussion of the pedagogies, methodologies etc. associated with the tools.

10.45-11.00

Short break

11.00-12.00

Session 8. Design sprint – WP4 tools idea generation and co-creation event.  Each student group designs materials for teaching research integrity to their specific cohort.

Short break

12.15-13.15

Session 9. Each group has 5 minutes to present their ideas and the tools they have developed. They can also provide a more detailed written description of their idea after the ESC if they wish.
